Captivated by the story of the Cave Church
Back in Cairo, Marilyn took the group tour to one of the most unusual places of worship in the world—a church built in a cave and decorated with beautiful wall carvings!
These cave churches were dug out of a mountain over the last 32 years and stand as a testimony to the over-coming faith and determination of a group of Christians committed to God—no matter the obstacle or the sacrifice. Imagine digging through a mountain, removing tons of rock and debris and chiseling these stunning works of art—under political scrutiny and intense religious persecution. Marilyn and the travelers felt honored to visit such a sacred and meaningful place.
In stark contrast to the majestic wall carvings found in the cave churches, Marilyn and the travelers visited Cairo’s Garbage City—the site of one of the most amazing stories of love and transformation found anywhere on earth. For 30 years Father Samaan (see video) and his wife have dedicated their lives to sharing the gospel and helping a group of people living in the midst the cities garbage dump—of all places! The 7,000 trash collectors and their families are literally outcasts shunned by society. Today the majority of them are Christians because of one man’s vision and commitment to share the love of God with them. Marilyn was excited to visit the city and church, and to show her team of travelers first-hand this showcase of God’s transforming power!

A fire at the Budo Junior School dormitory in Kampala, Uganda killed 19 school girls and two adults Monday night. This heartbreaking story comes just weeks after Marilyn spent several inspiring days in Uganda building relationships and joining her faith with the believers there.
Uganda, Ethiopia, and the entire nation of Africa hold a very special place in the hearts of Marilyn, Sarah and all of MHM and we feel God is knitting our hearts together with this country and its people. Please join us as we pray for this school community and for the families of those who lost loved ones in this tragic fire.

I just had the unbelievable privilege of speaking at the Oral Roberts University chapel. For me this was probably one of the greatest highlights of the year. I’ve dreamed of speaking in chapel for more than 10 years. This was an amazing honor! One of the reasons this is so meaningful to me is that I’m an alumni of ORU.
ORU, which opened its doors in 1965, is located in Tulsa, OK, and has an enrollment of 3,082. This was a great opportunity for me to “give back” to the students and college.
I shared about the importance of keeping our eyes on Jesus, based on Hebrews 12:2 and the importance of “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” Let’s ALL keep our eyes on Jesus!
